LEWISTON – Douglas and Sonia Taylor, directors of the Jesus Party Pentecostal Urban Outreach, are inviting the community to participate in an old-fashioned gospel tent revival meeting at 7 p.m. nightly Friday through Sunday, Aug. 5 to 14, at Kennedy Park.

Speaker will be the Rev. James Reynolds, founder and director of the Portland-based Deliverance Bible Institute. He will be accompanied by the ministry’s song leader, the Rev. Stephen Reynolds and the institute evangelistic team.

The traveling tabernacle will be erected during the afternoon hours of Thursday, Aug. 4.

Tents were used by popular revivalists such as Billy Graham and Oral Roberts in the mid 1900s. Reynolds has been keeping the tradition alive. The goal is to encourage area members of various denominations and to provoke the unchurched to become involved.

The Taylors said the preaching is usually fervent, the singing is enthusiastic and the altar calls emotional.
