RUMFORD – Grace Eliza McFarland Marsinko, 83, of Farmington, formerly of Weld, died late Sunday evening, Aug. 7, at the Rumford Community Hospital.

She was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Plymouth, a daughter of Louis Arthur and Helen B. (White) McFarland. She received her education in Phillips and Skowhegan schools, and in 1943 became a member of the WAACS. She was discharged in 1945 as a corporal in the U.S. Army.

She was a licensed beautician and received her supervisor’s license. For many years however, she chose to work for New Departure, a mechanical parts division of General Motors in Ohio.

She was a member of the Dixfield Nazarene Church and attended the Farmington Baptist Church while living with her sister, Lois, in Farmington.

She was an animal lover who enjoyed watching and feeding animals, and also enjoyed spending her free time crocheting. Though she never was blessed with being a mom, she loved and cared for the welfare of children, and took great pride in the life journeys of her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great-grandnieces and nephews.

She is survived by one brother, the Rev. W. C. Haley and his wife, Nellie, of Norway; one sister, Lois Henry of Farmington; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Edward Marsinko, who died July 23, 1969; her parents, Louis A. McFarland and Helen B. (White) McFarland Haley; three brothers, Arthur Raymond McFarland, John Haley and Robert Haley; and one sister, Pauline Haley Thompson.
