NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) – Scott Youngbauer had four hits, including a two-run homer, Monday night to lead the Portland Sea Dogs to a 6-4 win over the New Britain Rock Cats in the Eastern League.
With the Sea Dogs trailing 2-0 in the third inning, Jared Sandberg hit his 17th homer of the year with the bases empty off Levale Speigner (4-8). After an infield single by Sheldon Fulse, Youngbauer ripped his third homer of the year.
Portland (60-53) blew it open with three runs in the eighth. Youngbauer began the rally with a double and scored on a double by Jeremy West. Brandon Moss followed with a triple and scored on a double by Chris Durbin.
David Pauley (8-4) allowed two runs in the first inning but kept the Rock Cats (53-62) off the board through the seventh. Pauley yielded six hits and one walk while striking out four.
Jim Mann earned his sixth save with a scoreless ninth.
Luis Jimenez had two hits including a two-run single for New Britain. Alex Romero extended his hitting streak to 14 games and has hit safely in 28 of his last 29.
