PARIS – A fire raced through a Paris apartment building housing African immigrant families early Friday, killing at least 17 people, at least half of them children, police said.

At least 30 other people were injured in fire, including two seriously. The fire broke out shortly after midnight at a building in southeastern Paris, the fire department said. About 210 firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control.
