GORHAM – William Morgan Baxter, 63, beloved husband of Nancy, passed away in his home on Thursday, Aug. 25.

In 1981, upon his retirement from Needham Police Department in Massachusetts, he moved with his family to Wilton, fulfilling a longtime dream to move to Maine and live on a farm.

He served in the Army National Guard for seven years, worked as a bus driver for SAD 9, and was later self-employed.

He loved fishing, hunting, vegetable gardening, furniture making, tending to his house and farm, and smoking his pipe.

He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, SAM and the NRA.

He is survived by his four children, Kristin Baxter Colson and her husband, Timothy, of Rockland, Morgan Baxter and his wife, Kathleen, of Gorham, Shauna Baxter of Gorham, and Michael Baxter and his wife, Dana, of Farmington. He also leaves seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; his sisters, Sally Hasenfus of East Sandwich, Mass., and Catherine Pfau of Sterling, Va.; his sister-in-law, Jane Hunt of Cardiff, Calif.; and brothers-in-law, John Cahill of Holliston, Mass., and Paul Cahill of Wellesley, Mass.
