KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Edith I. Jordan, of Kissimmee, Fla., formerly of West Poland, died Aug. 12, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on Oct. 30, 1942, in Breslau, East Germany, the daughter of Richard and Irma Kursawe. She was educated in schools in East Germany, and in 1960 escaped to West Germany where she met her friend and former husband of 42 years, Charles Jordan. She arrived in the United Sates in 1962, and settled with her family in Luna Pier, Mich., until 1979, when the family relocated to Maine.

In 1996, she proudly became a citizen of the United States.

She worked for several companies in Maine, including Pionite, Spirometrics and Paine Products, before retiring to Florida in 2004.

She is survived by her children, Joanne Jordan and her companion, Jim Heimerl, of Temple, Heidi Thomas and her husband, Tim, of Portland, Pam Veilleux of Farmingdale, and her husband, Patrick, currently serving in Iraq, Michael Jordan and his companion, Cindy Sirois, of Farmingdale, Shelly Afthim and her husband, Phil, of North Andover, Mass.

She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Kim, Wendy and Robert Lauzier of Temple, Bridget, Erik and Garrett Thomas of Portland, Sam Snow and Lindsey and Zach Veilleux of Farmingdale, and Bryce and Brady Afthim of North Andover, Mass.; along with her family in Germany.
