Ranger program

PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. – “Leave No Trace” will be featured on Wednesday, Aug. 31, as the final Wednesday Night with a Ranger program in the White Mountain National Forest this summer. Backcountry Ranger Matt Schomburg will present a slide show and share simple low-impact techniques for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages.

The programs are presented by the Forest Service at 8 p.m. Wednesdays through the summer at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Pinkham Notch Visitor Center on Route 16. Programs are free and all local residents, campers and visitors are welcome.

Women’s meeting

RUMFORD – A gathering will be held for women ages 15 and up will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at the Rumford Library conference room when the topic will be “Ladies Can We Talk?”

Socrates Club

BETHEL – Western Mountains Senior College and SAD 44 Adult Education will hold the next Socrates Club meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Garland Chapel, West Parish Congregational Church. Women’s session

WILTON – “Life is a Patchwork Quilt” will be the theme for the next Western Maine Women’s Connection meeting to be held from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Boiler Room on Main Street.

Nancy Bates, a retired home economics teacher from Massachusetts who is recovering from cancer surgery, will attend. She will speak and compare her life of changes and challenges to making a quilt.

The Fabric Inn of Farmington will present a program on quilt basics and a quilt display.

The cost is $11, which includes gratuity and tax. Reservations and cancellations are essential. Call Millie at 684-4160 or Linda at 645-2412 or e-mail a reservation to [email protected].

A free nursery is available if needed with reservation. All women of the area are invited.

Takeout supper

MEXICO – The Women’s Fellowship of the Mexico Congregational, UCC, also called the “Green Church,” 163 Main St., will sponsor a baked bean takeout supper on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Food for approximately four people will be $15 for a quart of homemade baked beans (choice of large or small beans), a pint of coleslaw, four biscuits and an eight-inch homemade apple pie.

Dinners must be ordered by noon on Thursday, Sept. 8, by calling the church office at 364-8603. Leave name, phone number and order choices and someone will call back to confirm the order. Suppers may be picked up between noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
