Sodality to install
LEWISTON – St. Patrick’s Church Rosary Sodality will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the chapel for recitation of the rosary. Officers to be installed include Joyce Ouellette, prefect; Pat Berube, vice prefect; Diane Brown, secretary; and Louise Allen, treasurer. The Rev. Thomas Farley will be in attendance. Coffee and dessert will be served.
Family night
WINTHROP – Winthrop Grange 209 will observe Family and Music Night at its regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Grange Hall on Old Lewiston Road. The hall is handicapped accessible.
A potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. will precede the program. Those attending should bring casseroles and salads. Family, friends and neighbors are invited. The music program at 6:30 p.m. will be provided by musician Joyce Fessenden.
A business meeting will conclude the evening when certificates for long-term Grange service will be presented.
Dance classes
TOPSHAM – Scottish country dance classes will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning Sept. 8 at the Topsham Grange Hall, Pleasant Street. Participants will learn to do jigs, reels and more elegant strathspeys of Scotland.

Seniors meeting
AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the American Legion Hall on Washington Street. Directors will meet at 10 a.m.
There will be no raffle. There will be a bag lunch and bingo. Tickets for the Sept. 21 fried chicken luncheon will be sold by Lorraine Marcous.
The group attended a game day and picnic barbecue on Aug. 17 at the Hasty Memorial Community Center, hosted by the Auburn Parks and Rec. Department.
Benefit dinner
LEWISTON – A spaghetti dinner for the benefit of firefighter Shawn Metayer will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon St. Social hour will be from 5 to 6. Cost for the dinner is $7. Entertainment will follow at Friends Lodge, 2 Crowley Road. Metayer was severely injured in a motorcycle accident during the Lobster Run on Aug. 7. Food for Thought
LEWISTON – The first Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon program for the new season at USM/Lewiston-Auburn will be held on Friday, Sept. 9, and will feature presentations by the instructors scheduled for the upcoming Senior College fall semester courses at the college.
The program will be held in the function room at USM/Lewiston-Auburn beginning at noon. The cost, which includes lunch, is $6 with advance reservation or $8 at the door. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and reservations may be made at 753-6510 or www.usm.maine.edu/lac/seniorcollege by noon on Thursday, Sept. 8.
DAR speaker
AUBURN – Mary Dillingham Chapter, DAR, will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Village Inn. There will be a guest speaker. Prospective members are welcome. Call Beverly Robbins at 783-6086 for more information.
Bridge club
NEW GLOUCESTER – The New Gloucester Bridge Club met Aug. 28 at the Masonic Hall intersection of Routes 100 and 231 when a 4&1/2 table Howell movement was played. Finishing first in Flight A were Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; second, Nancy Farmer and Richard Balian; third, Darcy Page and Luke Merry.
Finishing first in Flight B were Nancy Farmer and Richard Balian with Shirley Banks and Martha Round second. There will no game on Sunday, Sept. 4, as it is a holiday weekend.
Next game will be 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11. For information, call Les Buzzell. A partner is guaranteed, and all bridge players are welcome.
Club results
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Aug. 29 were: first, Dick Allen and Richard Balian; second, Lucille Bilodeau and Linda Leotsakos; third, Eileen Potvin and Della Starbird; fourth, Barbara and Bill Whitman; fifth, Eleanor Griffin and Paul Beegel.

Registrations for the intermediate bridge club class are being accepted at the Lewiston Adult Education Office, 795-4141.
