NORTH NORWAY – Christopher Gore Miller, 62, died Thursday, Sept. 1, at his home after a four-year battle with cancer.
Born June 23, 1943, in New Bedford, Mass., he was the son of the Rev. Dr. Wilburn Miller and Helen (Frame) Miller. Although he grew up in Cambridge, Chris preferred the time he spent at his family’s summer home in North Norway, where he later built his own home.
After graduating from Tufts University with a bachelor’s degree in geology, Chris worked in the education department of the Boston Museum of Science before teaching in the Portland and Oxford Hills school systems. He shared his passion for science through innovative and often dramatic classroom demonstrations for 25 years until his retirement in 1996.
His interests ranged from photography to fly-tying, from gardening to carpentry. He was equally happy using a chain saw or listening to Bach and especially loved cruising Casco Bay with his family and friends on the Edith M.
He was an old-world gentleman with a mischievous sense of humor, whose generous spirit was evident both in his personal relationships and in his work on the board of the United Way of Oxford County.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; a daughter, Sarah Miller and her husband, Allen Walker; a son, Christopher and his wife, Lisa; two stepsons, Mark and Rellan Turner; and five nieces and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, William Miller; and his sister, Susanne Flagg.
