A free class offered through the Auburn Housing Authority this month will teach people how to establish a budget and stick to it.

The course runs from 6-8 p.m. on six consecutive Mondays beginning Sept. 12 at Barker Mill Arms Community room. It’s open to Auburn and Lewiston residents.

Participants will learn about saving money, establishing credit and how to buy a home. Participants will get a $25 gift certificate from local merchants at the end of the course.

The class is being co-sponsored by Community Concepts. People interested need to call Dodie Vasiliauskas at 777-6087 to register.

Monmouth: Library show

The Cumston Public Library is hosting an exhibit of children’s books through Sept. 30. Parents, teachers, young readers and anyone interested in the latest books for children and young adults are urged to check it out.

The “Cream of the Crop” collection consists of more than 150 picture books, fiction and nonfiction titles selected by children’s librarians in southern Maine. Included in the collection are titles that have received either Maine or national awards such as the Maine Library Association’s Lupine Award and the American Library Association Caldecott and Newbery Awards.

Library hours are 1 to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday; 1 to 5 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Sabattus: Check tax bills

The town of Sabattus urges residents to check their 2006 tax bills to ensure that their Homestead and Veterans exemptions were factored in. The returns were sent out in the mail last week.
