DAR meeting
AUBURN – Regent Sheila Desgrosseilliers announces that the Burnt Meadow Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at her home. A program on the Constitution will be presented after the business meeting.
Project report
BOWDOIN – The Bowdoin Historical Society will meet on Sunday, Sept. 11, at FHC Inc., Main Street. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m., with the meeting and program following.
Jim Moulton, Bowdoin Historic Preservation Committee member, will give a presentation on the Carter School project. This project started when Audra Knippa tried to save an old one-room school in Bowdoin. The school has been moved to a new site at the Bowdoin Town Complex and is being rebuilt.

Season begins
POLAND – The Poland Community Church has been a fixture in the town for nearly 200 years. As a new school year begins, the small church family has been busy as it changes the old into new. The church has new windows, a modern steeple and refurbished stained glass windows. Soon the sanctuary will be painted and the front facade will display new doors.
The church will host the New Beginnings Gospel Singers from Farmington at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11. The special worship service will feature Ron and Debbie Hodge leading the celebration as the congregation begins another year of service in the Poland area. A free will offering will be taken at the end of the worship.
Dance classes
LEWISTON – Irish ceili and set dance classes will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 12 and 19, at St. Patrick’s Hall, corner Walnut and Blake streets. The cost is $3 a session. No partner is needed and beginners are welcome. Jigs, reels and polkas will be featured. For more information, call 933-9761.
Meeting notice
BRUNSWICK – The Cumberland County Commissioners announced the first of their fall “On the Road with the Commissioners” meetings with towns across the county. The Monday, Sept. 12, county commissioners’ meeting will be held at 4 p.m. at the old high school, 44 McKeen St.
Beginning at 5:15 p.m. there will be a meeting with municipal officials from Harpswell, Brunswick, and Freeport to discuss issues of common concern, followed by a question and answer period for the public.
Speaker set
AUBURN – The National Association of Insurance Women – Androscoggin Valley will meet Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Martindale Country Club, Beech Hill Road. It is not the usual meeting day.
The meeting will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m. and dinner at 5:45. Guest speaker will be Marilyn Newell of Life Matters, a company to help people be successful on and off the job. Her topic will be work/life balance.
The National Association of Insurance Women (International) is made up of insurance professionals dedicated to the development of leaders in the insurance industry.

OES session
WALES – Lakeside Chapter 60, OES, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, to honor secretaries and treasurers. The meeting will be held at the Grange Hall, 322 Centre Road. All members and visiting members are welcome. There will be light refreshments after the meeting.

LISBON FALLS – Pioneer Chapter 11, Order of the Eastern Star, will honor chaplains and marshals at the Thursday, Sept. 15, meeting. Sam Kelly, grand chaplain, and Stephanie Dupal, grand marshal, will be special guests. The evening will begin with an ESTARL supper at 6 p.m. and a meeting at 7.
All members of the order are invited.
