After being closed for two weeks, the Lewiston Public Library is back in business.

The library reopened during the last week of August. Workers needed the time to complete the majority of the work on a $2.7 million renovation project. The stacks have been reorganized, there’s a new reading area and a cultural arts center, which will eventually have its own coordinator.

The library looks great. It has a warmer feel, and at first approach is better organized. It has an air of sophistication, even though there’s still work to be done before the official grand opening this fall. The library is an impressive anchor for downtown revitalization.

Libraries are a community asset, worth the investment to make them great. Lewiston residents should be proud of theirs.
