Primary school loses power

SABATTUS – About 150 Sabattus Primary School students and staff moved into Sabattus Central School on Thursday after the Primary School lost power.

Some of the kindergarten, first- and second-grade classes were held in the Central School’s gym. Others shared classrooms.

The power problem started Thursday morning when the Primary School lost most of its three-part electrical system, said Superintendent Paul Malinski.

That meant that part of the building had power, including classroom wall outlets. But most of the building didn’t, including computers, overhead lights and the freezer.

Students and teachers moved to the nearby Central School, which has about 350 students in grades 3 through 8. Primary School officials called parents and gave them the option of picking up their kids, but most parents left their kids in school.

Central Maine Power investigated the problem and found a transformer had malfunctioned, Malinski said. Workers repaired the problem and school will open as usual today.

Program to offer college info

LISBON – Lisbon High School is hosting a senior night for students and parents from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, in the high school library.

Senior night will allow parents and students to learn about two- and four-year colleges. Some of the highlights will be the college application process, specifically what is needed in a college application, the importance of grades, recommendations, college essays, and SAT testing if required.

Roger Phillipon, admissions director for the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn campus, will be the presenter.

In addition to the senior night program, there will be information on the college and financial aid process available for parents and students to take home and use as assistance through the college application process.
