Grange to elect

LIVERMORE – New Norland Grange will meet at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the grange hall in East Livermore when election of officers will be held. All grange members are asked to attend to participate in planning grange meetings and events that will be of more interest.

Family reunion

EUSTIS – The third annual reunion of the Shorey and Sylvester families will be held at noon Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Trails End Restaurant. For more information, call 246-5999.

Poker run

PHILLIPS – The Narrow Gauge Riders ATV Club will have a family poker run on Sunday, Oct. 16. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the run at 10 a.m. at Bear Hill Variety on Route 4. For more information, call 645-0932.

Open house

FARMINGTON – The Fairbanks School Neighborhood Association will offer an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Fairbanks School for members of the community interested in learning about what the new building will offer, as well as sharing their input on ideas for the future.

Tours of the building will be given along with talks, light refreshments and door prize drawings. The school is approximately 2.5 miles north from downtown Farmington on Route 4. Community members are invited to attend and discuss the new project.

FARMINGTON – A talk and slide show, “Amazonian Archaeology: A View from the Central Brazilian Amazon,” will be presented by Dr. Eduardo Goes Neves from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, in 205 Ricker Addition, University of Maine at Farmington.

Neves will present an overview of Amazonian archaeology and the highlights of more than 10 years of research conducted in the central Amazon of Brazil. He is director of an international interdisciplinary research project with Robert Bartone, UMF, and Dr. James B. Petersen, University of Vermont, among other collaborators. The research is revealing new insights into the pre-Columbian cultural landscape.
