Marine Corps Pfc. Travis M. House, son of Cindy L. House of Mechanic Falls, recently completed the basic assault amphibian vehicle repairman course.
During the course with Assault Amphibian School Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif., students were trained in maintenance and repair procedures for the vehicles, which are used to transport troops and supplies from Navy ships to the beach during amphibious assaults.
Topics included vehicle operation, along with removing and servicing its engine, transmission and hydraulic and turret systems.
House is a 2004 graduate of Poland Regional High School and joined the Marine Corps in November 2004.
Christopher J. Dirago, son of Kathrin and Keith H. Dirago of Topsham, recently participated in the U.S. Naval Academy’s weeklong summer seminar program in Annapolis, Md.
Dirago was introduced to academy life through a regimen of academics, physical training, intramural sports, sailing and seamanship, as well as leadership training and social activities.
The summer seminar program was designed by the U.S. Naval Academy’s office of admissions to give students a taste of the challenges and benefits of a Naval Academy education.
Dirago is attending Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham.
