Pedal pushers take home ribbons at fair

FARMINGTON – Revved up on cotton candy and corn dogs, 24 kids competed in the pedal tractor pull at the Farmington Fair on Wednesday. All walked away with ribbons.

Training in New Vineyard appears to have paid off, as competitors from that town took several first and second place ribbons, though Livermore pedalers, too, had a good showing.

Maryann Ladd, 7, of New Vineyard took the girls’ 51- to 60-pound class, winning by a mere half-inch, stealing the blue ribbon from Brianna Ellis, also 7, and from New Vineyard.

Ladd’s brother, Robert, 4, easily took first in the boys’ 40- to 50-pound class with a steady ride reaching more than 19 feet, whipping the competition by almost 10 feet. His closest competitor, Landon Brochu, “almost 6,” of Livermore gave a good showing with an almost 10-foot ride.

Cody Thompson, 6, of Wilton upped last year’s third-place showing, pressuring the pedals to a first place win in the boys’ 51- to 60-pound class.
