LISBON – There are still openings for Lisbon Adult Education classes starting in October.
For students who are new to the world of computers, two classes are recommended: “Computers for Complete Beginners” starting on Oct. 4 and “Computerized Keyboarding” starting Oct. 20. Both will meet from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
A 10-week “Microsoft Word” class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays starting Sept. 26. The class is divided into five sections, and students may sign up for the entire class or for individual sections.
An eight-week Power Point class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. starting Oct. 4. The class will be in three sections. A “QuickBooks Pro 2005” class will start on Wednesday, Oct. 19, and run for eight weeks, meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. A “Microsoft Access XP” class will start on Thursday, Oct. 6, and will run for 10 weeks meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
A 10-week “Accounting 1” class will start on Monday, Oct. 17. The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. and provides the opportunity to earn college credit at Central Maine Community College.
A Maine Driving Dynamics class will start on Tuesday, Oct. 25. An American Red Cross adult, infant and child first aid/CPR class will run for three weeks starting Oct. 5. A certified babysitting class will begin Thursday, Oct. 6, and run from 6 to 8 p.m. for seven weeks. Students must be at least 11.
A beginning American Sign Language class will start on Monday, Oct. 3. The class will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. for seven weeks. Children who are at least 10 may take the class free when accompanied by an adult.
“Magic with Tortillas” will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3. A Halloween crafts night from children ages 4 through 12 will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12.
A six-week quilting class, “Disappearing Nine-Patch Quilt,” will start on Tuesday, Sept. 27, and will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. A canine CPR/first aid class will meet from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26. Students will learn procedures from handling a broken limb, treating a poisoning case, preventing heat stroke and other emergency situations.
Children’s scrapbooking classes will be offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays. The classes are designed for children ages 6 to 12 and will be held Sept. 29, Nov. 3 and 10.
The new food pyramid will be the topic of a class sponsored by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. It will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. for four weeks starting Oct. 11.
A writing fiction workshop will be offered for eight weeks from 6 to 8 p.m. starting Oct. 4. The class gives students the opportunity to meet with others who enjoy writing to share ideas and gain inspiration. Hospice volunteer training will start on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
