Flyfishinginmaine.com is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Web site with a fly-tying contest open to all abilities. Submissions must be postmarked no later than Oct. 31 and mailed to Flyfishinginmaine.com, P.O. Box 7925, Portland, ME 04112.
“We are asking for a usable quality fly versus one that would be used strictly for display purposes,” said site moderator Tim Soule.
Temple Fork Outfitters and Chandler Pond Outfitters are sponsoring the contest and will present prizes to the winner.

University of Maine field hockey clinic
ORONO – University of Maine field hockey coach Terry Kix and Louis Mendonca, assistant coach of the Canadian men’s national field hockey team, will host a youth clinic following the Maine-Albany field hockey game on Sunday, Oct. 2. The game begins at 1 p.m., with the clinic scheduled for approximately 3 o’clock.
The clinic will run three hours and feature instruction from Kix, Mendonca and select Maine players.
In addition to the clinic, the $25 entry fee entitles participants to a team photo and an opportunity to have it autographed by the entire Maine squad.
