WELLS – The second show of the Maine Band Directors Association’s 22nd marching band season was held at Wells High School on Saturday, Sept. 24. “Music By the Sea,” hosted by Wells High School, saw 10 high school bands from Maine and New Hampshire take to the field to perform for evaluation.

Bands receiving overall ratings of one star were Edward Little, Lewiston, Marshwood, Sanford and Wells. Lewiston High School received two stars for drum major. Wells High School received two stars for music. Edward Little received two stars for percussion and music. Marshwood High School received two stars for drum major, color guard, percussion and music.

Bands receiving overall ratings of two stars were Biddeford, Dover, N.H., Old Orchard Beach, Portsmouth, N.H., and South Portland. Portsmouth High School received three stars for percussion. Dover High School received three stars for color guard, percussion, music and general effect.

The next band show will be at Westbrook High School at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. Additional shows in the season will be at Sanford High School on Oct. 8, Leavitt Area High School on Oct. 15 and Biddeford High School on Oct. 22. All shows begin at 6 p.m.

The 22nd annual marching bands final is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at South Portland High School.

Other activities for high school and middle school bands sponsored by the Maine Band Directors Association include the Maine Open Jazz Festival, a Winter Guard and Percussion Extravaganza and a Concert Band Festival.
