LEWISTON – October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, and A Walk to Remember was created to nationally honor those who have died through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, still birth or newborn death.

Locally, A Walk to Remember will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Women’s Health Pavilion, 330 Sabattus St. All proceeds will benefit the Colby Fund.

The Colby Fund was established after a local couple lost their son, Colby, at 32 weeks gestation. The family created the fund as a way of keeping their son’s memory alive and help support bereaved families emotionally and financially.

Refreshments will be available. Free T-shirts will be handed out to individuals collecting $50 or more in donations. The morning will end with a symbolic release of balloons in memory of those babies who have died.

A Walk to Remember is sponsored locally by Sharing Through Experience, a support group created to support bereaved families emotionally and financially. It meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month at St. Mary’s Women’s Pavilion Fleet Room.
