I agree with Mary Dow, whose letter appeared Sept. 30. We do not realize the seriousness of the abortion of 4,000 babies per day.

The late Pope John Paul II said, “America’s deepest identity and truest character as a nation is revealed in the position you take toward the human person. … The ultimate test of your greatness is the way you treat every human being, but especially the weakest and most defenseless ones. America: You cannot insist on the right to choose, without also insisting on the duty to choose well, the duty to choose the truth.”

All life should be preserved from conception to death. Just think, if it were not a life, why would you need a pill to kill it (abort) or scissors to cut it up if it were not alive?

Whether it is a fetus, a soldier, grandparents, young children, teenagers or parents, single or religious people, we all need protection from people who feel we are not important.

It’s like Bishop Fulton J. Sheen once said, if you don’t respect life at noon, how will you respect it at midnight? From one second conceived to 100 years old, all life is important.

America once defended the Jewish people from extermination by Hitler in Germany and because we stood together, we won. Can we not do so again and stand up against abortion, defend the defenseless and also pray together to stop abortion?
