A few weeks ago, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m., was the opening night for the instrument program at St. Peter and Sacred Heart School, where kids in grades 4-8 could choose any one of the nine instruments offered to play. There was a great turn out, 31 kids showed up to get their instruments, music sheets, and stands. The musical instruments they could choose from were violin, viola, chello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion.

The teacher, Mrs. Linda Vaillancourt, was asked by Mrs. Donna Sawyer, the principal, if she could teach the kids to play the instruments since she is a very talented musician herself.

Mrs. Vaillancourt has been playing since she was in fourth grade and started playing more and more instruments as she got older and can play a large variety now. She has also taught other schools in Maine and says she loves teaching everyone. She teaches 30 min. classes Thurs. and Fri. from 2 – 4 p.m. The point of the program she says is to learn how to play instruments, string or band, and eventually be able to do performances.

She hopes to have the performances roughly around December and sometime in the spring. Hope to see you there.
