GORHAM – Junior midfielder Allison Marshall scored the first of three second-half goals to lead the Bates College Bobcats to a 3-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game on Sunday at Paula D. Hodgdon Field.
Winning their second straight game in as many days, the Bobcats improve to 5-6. The Huskies fall to 5-8, suffering their second straight loss.
Marshall broke open a scoreless tie in the 44th minute when she drove in a goal following a give-and-go pass from freshman forward Rachel Greenwood to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Bates quickly doubled its advantage three minutes later when freshman forward Abby Childs converted Greenwood’s second assist 46:58 into the game. Freshman forward Emily Sampson capped the scoring for the Bobcats when she recorded an unassisted strike with a drive from the middle of the circle in the 52nd minute.
Maine 1, Dartmouth 0
HANOVER, N.H. – Kim MacDonald’s goal off a penalty corner proved to be all Maine would need in beating Dartmouth 1-0 in a women’s field hockey match on Sunday.
Joanna Fernandes assisted on the first-half goal. Becca Giroux made four saves to register the shutout for the Black Bears (10-5).
Women’s soccer
Binghamton 1, Maine 0
ORONO – Danielle White was successful on a first-half corner kick to lift Binghamton to a 1-0 win over Maine in women’s soccer on Sunday.
Kristie Bowers turned in 13 saves to post the shutout despite Maine outshooting Binghamton (8-6-2, 4-2-0) 25-8.
Jasmine Phillips made three saves for the Black Bears (9-5-1, 4-1-1).
USM 1, UMass-Dartmouth
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Senior midfielder Dianna Thibaudeau scored the only goal of the match in the 78th minute to give the University of Southern Maine Huskies a 1-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth Corsairs in a Little East Conference women’s soccer matchup on Sunday afternoon at wind-swept Cressy Field.
With the win, the Huskies improve to 9-3-1 overall and stay unbeaten in the conference at 4-0-0. UMass-Dartmouth dropped its third straight match to fall to 4-10-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the conference.
Thibaudeau connected on a 10-yard shot that slipped past UMD sophomore goalkeeper Shawna Howell. Junior Julia Cyr set up the goal as she intercepted a failed clearing attempt at the top of the penalty area and sent a pass to Thibaudeau.
