POWNAL – The Maine St. Andrew’s Society and Ceilidh House will present workshops in Cape Breton-style bagpiping and stepdancing on Saturday Oct. 22, at the Pownal Town Hall (Mallett Hall) on Route 9. The day will finish with a Ceilidh starting at 7 p.m., also at Pownal Town Hall.

Cape Breton piper Barry Shears will offer a workshop on “Piping for Dancing,” with a focus on the dance music of Cape Breton – jigs, reels and strathspeys.

Stepdancer Allison Shears will teach two workshop sessions on the Cape Breton style of stepdancing, one for beginners and one for intermediate dancers.

Barry Shears will present a lecture and slide show on the “History and Music of Cape Breton” at 1 p.m. Admission is by donation and potluck items are welcome.

Admission to workshops (includes presentation and ceilidh) is $25; for members, $20. Admission to the history presentation is $5; members, free; admission to Ceilidh only, donation and potluck drink or snack (no alcohol). For more information, call 688-4515.
