RUMFORD – Staff Sgt. Gregory L. Boivin, Army Recruiting Office in Bangor, participated in the U.S. Army General Change of Command Ceremony on Oct. 12 in Fort Knox, Ky.

Boivin was named, out of 2,500 soldiers, as the 1st Recruiting Brigade Noncommissioned Officer of the Year. 1st Recruiting Brigade extends from Maine to Kentucky.

He was chosen to represent 1st Brigade at the command change ceremony.

The ceremony bid farewell to outgoing Commanding Gen. Michael D. Rochelle and welcomed incoming Commanding Gen. Thomas T. Bostick.

The command is responsible for meeting the personnel requirements of the U.S. Army for the United States, Virgin Island, Puerto Rico and American citizens living in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Country music singer/songwriter Darryl Worley, who has entertained troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, was the featured performer at the farewell luncheon for Rochelle on Oct. 11.

Boivin also had the opportunity to meet Warner Brothers recording artist Michael Peterson, Army NASCAR driver Joe Nemechek, Army Top Fuel Dragster Driver Tony Schumacher and Army Pro Stock Motorcycle Racers Antron Brown, and Angelle Sampey.

Boivin is the son of Arthur Boivin of Rumford.
