FARMINGTON – A combination of factors contributed to a rollover accident on Town Farm Road on Tuesday night, Detective Marc Bowering of the Farmington Police Department said Wednesday.

Harold Small, 71, of Phillips had to be extricated by firefighters after his Ford Explorer rolled into a ditch in front of Nation Paving around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday night, Bowering said.

Small was trapped inside the wreckage, and was going in and out of consciousness while rescuers worked to free him.

With slushy snow on the ground, road conditions contributed to the accident, but Small was also charged with operating under the influence, which was a factor, Bowering said.

Two different passing motorists reported the accident about 10 to 15 minutes after it occurred, Bowering estimated.

Small was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, according to a hospital spokeswoman there.

A nursing supervisor at the Lewiston hospital said Wednesday evening that he was listed in good condition.
