NEW YORK (AP) – A police officer responding to a call early Sunday shot a 19-year-old Bronx man alleged to have been participating in an assault, authorities said. The man, shot in the abdomen, died at a hospital some hours later.
Three officers had responded to a call of shots fired at the corner of Creston Avenue and East 180th Street in the Bronx around 2:20 a.m., police said. The officers came upon two men attacking a third.
One of the officers fired two shots, police said, striking one of the men, whom authorities identified as Leonel Disla. Disla was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died around 8 a.m., police said.
