For the past four years the cross country running team has grown. Beginning with only eight runners in 2002 the sport has become more popular to the student body. Currently in 2005 the team has developed into a team family of an amazing 31 runners. This year Head Coach Ryan Gleason and Assistant Coach Jim Boulet hope for a great season. I asked some of the players what they thought of the sport. “It’s like a rush just to know you just finished a race,” “The sport in itself is different, it takes a lot of hard work, but finishing a race makes you feel accomplished.”

Some of the biggest challenges for the runners are “The third mile,” “The physical aspect of running each race and keeping a steady pace.” Their season ends at the end of October at the Western Regionals, but some might make it to the Western State Championships held in Augusta. Good luck for the rest of the season. GO SAINTS!
