LOWELL, Mass. – Bret Tyler had a goal and three assists to lead the University of Maine to a 9-2 rout over the University of Massachussets at Lowell in men’s hockey action Friday.
The Black Bears jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first period. Travis Wight got things started with a goal assisted by Billy Ryan and Keenan Hopson. Hopson pitched in with three assists on the night.
Brent Shepheard scored a pair of goals for Maine, the second and fifth points of the first period.
The Black Bears scored three unanswered points in the second period.
Mike Potacco had an unassisted goal for UMass-Lowell in the first period, while Matt Walsh provided the second Lowell goal in the loss.
Women’s basketball
St. Thomas 60, CMCC 50
FORT KENT – Alicia Sterling had 12 points and six rebounds to lead St. Thomas University to a 60-50 win over Central Maine Community College in the opening game of the Bengal Tipp-off Classic action Friday.
Jocelyn McIntyre added eight points and seven rebounds for the Tommies.
Nichole Hutchinson led the Mustangs with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Tiffany Seames chipped in with 12 points in the loss.
Mount Allison 76, UMFK 70
FORT KENT – Katie Green scored 12 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead Mt. Allison to a 76-70 overtime win over the University of Maine at Fort Kent in the Bengal Tip-off Classic in women’s basketball on Friday.
Brittany Carter led the Mounties with 17 points.
Amanda Davis lead the Bengals with 22 points and six rebounds, while Nicole Corbin added 21 and five assists in the loss.
