RUMFORD – Francis J. Daigle, 88, of Blanchard Road in Rumford, died Friday, Nov. 11, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough.

He was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, a son of Philip and Hilda (LeBlanc) Daigle.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He married Marguerite Kelly on Dec. 1, 1951, and they celebrated 36 years of marriage together. She passed away on March 23, 1987.

Francis was employed for more than 25 years with the Rumford Paper Mill.

He was a communicant of St. Athanasius & St. John Catholic Church. He was a member of the Boise Cascade 25 year club, American Legion Post 24 in Rumford and VFW Post 1641 in Rumford.

Francis enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by two daughters, Thelma Reed and husband, Eugene, of Arundel, and Carol Gallant and husband, Scott, of Westbrook; two sisters, Pearl Vachon of LaGrange, Ga., and Dorothy Roy and husband, Leonard, of Rumford; seven grandchildren, Kristen, Brian, Alan, Stephanie, Laurie, Cassadie and Justin; and two great-grandchildren, Karissa and Kyle.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 36 years, Marguerite (Kelly) Daigle, in 1987; a son, John Daigle, in 2001; three brothers, Patrick, Charles and Herbert; and a sister, Margaret Binnette.
