LEWISTON – La Survivance Franaise will hold its Christmas banquet at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at the Ramada Conference Center. A family-style meal consisting of mashed potatoes, mashed turnips and carrots, Boston scrod, chicken cordon bleu, Italian pasta and chocolate cream pie will be served.

After the meal, Franco-American singer Jose Vachon will interpret songs from her latest Christmas CD.

Vachon was born in Qubec and raised in Maine. She is living in Pennsylvania with her husband and two children. Vachon began singing publicly while a student at the University of Maine in Orono where she majored in romance languages and obtained her bachelor’s degree in 1984.

She gained recognition as a new Franco-American voice through her first performances at festivals in Lewiston and Madawaska. She has performed at the Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.; in Martinique, France; Berlin; Paris; Qubec City; Montral; on Radio-Canada as well as the CBC radio network in Moncton, New Brunswick. She was also recorded for a special on “La Bolduc” on Canada’s history channel.

From March of 1987 until April of 1998, Vachon hosted more than 500 tapings of “Bonjour,” the most widely-seen French-language television show in the U.S., airing on cable and public television stations throughout the northeastern U.S. and Canada as well as Louisiana, produced by ACA Assurance and Media One.

Vachon has 11 solo recordings to her credit and continues to perform and record the music that best represents her love of Franco-American culture.

The banquet is open to the public and tickets, at a cost of $15, will be available until Wednesday, Nov. 30. For reservations, call Aliette Couturier at 784-1434 as tickets will not be sold at the door.
