NORWAY – The Norway Memorial Library Children’s Department is celebrating the 88th annual Children’s Book Week Monday through Saturday, Nov. 14 to 19. The theme for the week is “Imagine,” and several special activities are planned for the week.
The theme will be carried out in the Wednesday preschool story time and the Friday Baby Boosters story time. Both programs begin at 10:30 a.m.
The highlight of the week will be the visit of author and illustrator Dean Bennett at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19. Bennett will share his latest book.
Bennett was born and raised in the village of Locke Mills. He is professor emeritus at the University of Maine at Farmington, where he taught for 19 years. His published works include more that a half dozen books. Most recently, he has written and illustrated “Everybody Needs a Hideaway” and “Finding a Friend in the Forest.” Both are wildlife adventures written for children.
Children can enter their name for a drawing for one of his books. The drawing will be held during his visit.
Children and adults can become part of the Adopt-a-Book program during November. Anyone who would like to honor a friendship, celebrate a child’s birthday or thank someone in a unique way should stop by the display at the library and learn how book adoption takes place.
