LEWISTON – Ernestine B. “Ernie” Hotham, 77, of Topaz Circle in Auburn, died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 16, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center with her family at her side.

She was born in Dorchester, Mass., on Dec. 8, 1927, a daughter of James E. and Blanche (Chadsey) Jones. She was educated in Auburn schools, graduated from Edward Little High School in 1945 and remained a lifelong resident of this community.

On June 14, 1946, she married Don F. Hotham, who passed away on Sept. 26, 1997, after 51 years of marriage.

Ernie was employed as a bookkeeper for many years, first working for the Holiday Inn in Auburn from 1966 to 1975, and later for Original Crispy Pizza from 1981 to 2003.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and for many years, served on the board of directors for Oak Hill Cemetery.

She was an avid lifelong skier, as she and her husband had their own rope tow in Auburn, and she taught many local people her favorite sport. She also taught skiing at Sugarloaf for a number of years. In addition, she greatly enjoyed fishing with Don in the summer months.

She leaves a daughter, Deborah Hemond and husband, Richard, of Minot; a son, Dana Hotham of Hebron; two grandchildren, Robert Hemond and wife, Monica, of Minot, and Dawn Hemond of Portland; and three great-grandchildren, Danica, Zachary and Bailee.

She was predeceased by a brother, Robert of Arizona.
