ORONO (AP) – Four more University of Maine hockey players, including two from Massachusetts, have been ordered to appear in court next month after accompanying two teammates during an alleged assault on another a student.
Travis Wight, 23, of Fannystelle, Manitoba; Brent Shepheard, 22, of Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia; Bret Tyler, 20, of Maynard, Mass.; and Rob Bellamy, 20, of Westfield, Mass., were issued summonses charging them with criminal trespass, a misdemeanor.
Police said the four were among a group of students who accompanied Mike Hamilton, 22, of Victoriaville, British Columbia, and Wes Clark, 22, of Oakville, Ontario, on Sunday night to the apartment of a baseball team member who had been involved with Hamilton’s ex-girlfriend.
A fight ensued, and the 21-year-old baseball player later received stitches over his left eye at a Bangor hospital.
Hamilton and Clark, who were charged with assault and aggravated criminal mischief, have been suspended indefinitely from the team. Wight, Shepheard, Tyler and Bellamy were given one-game suspensions. All six hockey players involved in the incident were scheduled to appear Dec. 23 in Bangor District Court.
