ORONO – Bracey Barker led a balanced attack with 16 points as Maine steamed to an 88-56 win over Kennesaw State in women’s basketball action Friday.
Katie Whittier, who had a double-double with 13 points and a game-leading 11 rebounds for the Black Bears (2-0), opened the scoring with a layup. Danielle Bates followed with a game-tying layup for the Owls (0-2), but that was as close to taking a lead as Kennesaw would get. Maine took a modest 39-30 lead into the half, and came out with some spark in the second stanza to take a 38-point lead with 3:47 remaining in regulation.
Abby Schrader notched a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Ashley Underwood contributed 10 points.
