PORTLAND – Robert “Bob” Leon Wyman Sr., 69, of Oxford, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Maine Medical Center, with his loving family by his side, after a short illness.

He was born in South Paris on July 4, 1936, the son of Gladys Burnham and Harold Clayton Wyman Sr.

He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps for 8 years. During his time in the Marines, he married Martha Anne Watkins on July 1, 1956 in Goldsboro, N.C.

In 1962, following his call of duty in the U.S. Marine Corps, he returned to Maine and worked for A.C. Lawrence Leather Co. He was laid off from A.C. Lawrence and worked in North Carolina at the North Carolina state nursery for a short time, but missed living in Maine. He returned to work at A.C. Lawrence as a foreman until it closed. He then worked at Market Square Health for 8 years as the maintenance and housekeeping supervisor, until he retired in 1998. After retiring, he worked for C.N. Brown Citgo Station in the Oxford Plaza until his death.

The family lived in Oxford until the children were grown, then Bob and Anne moved to Stoneham, where they lived in the Evergreen Valley for 17 happy years. In 1997, they moved back to Oxford, where Bob spent his remaining years.

Bob’s life was very full and was happy doing the things he loved such as stock car racing, snowmobiling, traveling, hunting, fishing, camping and golf. He helped form the first Norway snowmobile club and served as president at one point. He also helped start the Stoneham Knight Riders Snowmobile Club and was also past president. He was a member of the Norway Country Club. Bob loved his week at hunting camp every year in November with his son, brother and nephews. What he loved most was spending time with his family, which was what was most important to him.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years; one son, Robert Wyman Jr. of Oxford; two daughters, Kathy and her husband, Jay Goforth, of Oxford, and Terry and her husband, Kenneth Hoyt, of Oxford; four grandchildren, Tanya Goforth and her fianc, Samuel George, of Oxford, Regina and her husband, Matt Wilson, of Oxford, Derek Goforth of Hawaii and Kenny Hoyt of North Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Kyle and Meagan Hewey of Oxford and Nicholas Wilson of Oxford; two brothers, Clayton Wyman Jr. of South Paris and Richard Wyman Sr. of Norway; and several nieces and nephews.
