AUBURN – Police here are hunting for a bank robber following a late Sunday morning heist at the TD Banknorth branch at Shaw’s Center Street supermarket.

A lone bandit, his features partially hidden by sunglasses and a stocking cap pulled low on his forehead, approached a teller and demanded money, police Lt. Rick Coron said.

After getting an undisclosed amount of cash, the robber fled the store through a nearby exit.

Police said no weapon was shown.

They described the robber as a white man, 5-feet-7-inches to 6-feet tall, and wearing a green jacket.

Police have released a photo of the suspect taken by a store security camera. They’re asking anyone who may have information about the case or who recognizes the man to call the Auburn Police Department at 784-7332

Sunday’s 11:45 a.m. heist was the second bank robbery in the Lewiston-Auburn area in less than a week.

Last Monday a lone robber handed a Northeast Bank branch teller a note demanding money from the Lisbon Street, Lewiston, bank. No weapon was shown in that holdup, either.

No arrest in the case has been made. Lewiston police said that robbery also remains under investigation.
