BOSTON (AP) – A Lowell man pleaded innocent Thursday to manslaughter and drag racing charges in the death of a pregnant Leominster woman.

Carlos Rodriguez, 18, was arraigned in his bed at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, where he was taken with serious injuries after the Nov. 3 crash. He is now listed in fair condition.

Prosecutors say Rodriguez lost control of his car while racing another car on the Lowell Connector at speeds of 90 mph. He hit two cars, including a Subaru Legacy driven by 31-year-old Deborah Hornberger. She and her unborn child later died, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.

Rodriguez also pleaded innocent to charges of speeding and marked lane violations. He was held on $5,000 cash bail.
