LISBON FALLS – Leonard J. Malarsie, 82, of Lisbon Falls, passed away at his residence on Dec. 1.

Leonard was born in Bremerton, Wash., on May 28, 1923, the son of the late John and Jessie (Hawes) Malarsie. He graduated from high school in 1939 in San Pedro, Calif.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1942 to 1952. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served from 1952 until his retirement in 1972 as a chief master sergeant. He served in the American Theater, Asiatic Pacific, European Theater, and Philippine’s Liberation Ribbon. He also served on the VSS Erie and VSS Susan B. Anthony. There he received various medals, which included the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Throughout Leonard’s service for his country (World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam), he was a lifetime member of the Lisbon VFW Post 9459, American Legion Post 158 and the Slovak.

Some of Leonard’s greatest joys were volunteering, especially for cookouts; he loved to cook for everyone. He also enjoyed traveling in his younger days, had a great love for animals, and enjoyed watching TV and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn (Goss) Malarsie, whom he married in 1993; his three daughters, Helen Malarsie, Jessie Collar and husband, Mark, and Susan Charron and husband, Gerard; his three sons, Leonard Malarsie and wife, Lynette, John Malarsie and wife, Charlene, and Louis Malarsie and wife, Donna; a stepdaughter, Deborah Rinquette and companion, Bruce Guay; two stepsons, David Gross and wife, Becky, and Carl Gross; nine grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nine step-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Helen (Errico) Malarsie; a cousin, Robert Halverson; a stepdaughter, Glenys Pinette; and a step-son-in-law, Louis Pinette.
