LEWISTON – Henri George Lajoie, 94, of Lewiston, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Russell Park Manor.

Born in Canada, he was the son of Laurent and Josephine Brillant Lajoie. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 10. With his parents, he was legally admitted by paying the required head tax at Island Pond, Vt., on Aug. 27, 1922. At age 29, on Nov. 20, 1940, he received his U.S. certificate of naturalization.

He worked many jobs, driving a taxi part time, and worked at Lumbard Shoe Shop for 12 years and Bath Iron Works for five years. He also was a gas station attendant. He retired from Wade and Dunton, a truck and body shop, after 35 years. He was a member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.

He is survived by one stepson, Richard Gendron and wife, Louisa, of Manchester, N.H.; two stepdaughters, Muriel Gendron Lepage of Willingboro, N.J., and Loretta Gendron Vanesse-Fletcher of Groton, Conn.; one sister, Jeanne Lajoie Vaillancourt of Auburn; a niece, caregiver and godchild, Carol Lajoie Tracy; eight step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his wife, Albertine Ouellette Gendron Lajoie.
