CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) – Harvard President Lawrence H. Summers married Harvard professor Elisa New on Sunday in a ceremony at Summers’ on-campus residence.
Rabbi Norman Janis, a Harvard chaplain, performed the ceremony at Elmwood, the historic estate owned by the university.
New, 47, author of “The Line’s Eye: Poetic Experience, American Sight,” teaches English and American literature and language at Harvard.
Summers, 51, became Harvard’s 27th president in 2001. He taught economics at Harvard in the 1980s before he moved to Washington and served as secretary of the treasury in the second Clinton administration.
A native of New Haven, Conn., Summers has twin daughters, Pam and Ruth, and a son, Harry, from a previous marriage.
