CPR training

LEWISTON – St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center will offer free CPR training for new and expectant parents from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15. To register, call 777-8280.

Helping needy

AUBURN – The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department Employee Benevolent Association and Union membership, representing Council 93, AFSCME, is helping needy families in Androscoggin County. Each association has pledged $1,000.

From those funds, $500 will be donated to a local organization that assists families with heating. Volunteers from the associations will meet at 7 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Wal-Mart in Auburn with a list of needs and the remaining $1,500.

Kids’ class

LEWISTON – St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center is offering a free class to help prepare children for the changes that will come when a new baby arrives home and suggest ways to help adjust to the new arrival. The class will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. To register, call 777-8280.

VFW meeting

LEWISTON – Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will meet at noon Sunday, Dec. 18, at the Lewiston Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon St. All officers and members are encouraged to attend. The agenda will include discussion on membership, recruiting new member and activities for 2006.

Lodge degree

AUBURN – A special meeting of Ancient Brothers Lodge 178, AF and AM, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St., to confer the Fellow Craft Degree. The meeting will be preceded by a supper at 6:30 p.m. All Masons are welcome.

Society party

POLAND – The Poland Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the Old Schoolhouse, 1229 Maine St., next to the Poland Town Office. Following the business meeting, refreshments will be served, and there will be a holiday party with a gift exchange. Members should bring a gift for the exchange. The public is welcome.

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Dec. 12 were: N/S, first, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings; second, Betty and Doug Sise; third, Barbara Beegel and Allie Boyer.

Help for hungry

AUBURN – In support of Good Shepherd Food-Bank’s increasing needs this winter season, T&M Mortgage Solutions Inc. recently donated $500 to the organization.

Because every dollar donated to the food bank can provide more that $12.50 in food to agencies statewide, the donation equals to approximately $6,250 in food to hungry people throughout Maine. The organization currently provides food for more than 500 nonprofit groups in the state.
