WEST PARIS – Fred C. Rand, 85, of South Paris, formerly of Portland, died Monday, Dec. 12, at Ledgeview Living Center.
He was born in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, on March 23, 1920, the son of Fred V. and Daisy G. Kennedy Rand. He attended schools in Massachusetts.
He was a salesman for Vanity Fair, Pillsbury Flour and Forest Co. in Portland.
He was a past master and 50-year member of the Cornerstone Lodge 216 AF & AM, a past worthy patron of the Cornerstone Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Kora Temple, the Scottish Rites Bodies Valley of Portland, the Rod and Gun Club and the VFW.
He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was a tank instructor at Fort Campbell, Ky.
He is survived by his wife, the former Martha Quisenberry, of South Paris, whom he married on Nov. 10, 1944; a daughter, Janet Ray and her husband, Sam, of South Paris; a brother, Curtis “Buzz” Rand of Hingham, Mass.; a granddaughter, Amanda “Mandy” of Pensacola, Fla.; a grandson, Thomas “T.J.” of South Paris; and seven nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert.
