HARTFORD – A meeting was set to study road needs for 2006 by Chairman David Bowen for 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5. This request was a follow-up from the regionalization meeting in Buckfield Wednesday night.

Buckfield Town Manager Glen Holmes had asked Sumner and Hartford for a list of their projections for 2006 on road supplies and maintenance. Bowen assigned the task to Road Committee Chairman Bob Calawa and Road Commissioner Alan McNeil. He asked for the committee to prepare an agenda of work that needed to be done in 2006. This work would include how many miles of asphalt they planned to pave, how much gravel, how many culverts and how many miles of ditching was planned.

The compiled list and estimated costs will be taken to the next regionalization meeting in Buckfield on Jan. 18.

Michael O’Donnell from O’Donnell Associates spent time explaining to the board why he was recommending some tax abatements. Some of those reasons were questions on the legal ownership of a deceased person’s property, wrong acreage on some property, and one home that was missed in April on revaluation and was only half completed at that time. Another request on a lot with limited use was tabled until the owner could research the adjacent property more. O’Donnell said they strive for consistency in their assessments.

Bowen said he would like to see an abatement form developed that would give the board consistent information.

Calawa reported that a hole had been dug for the sand/salt shed and the ledge went down from 3 to 4 feet on the sides. Community Dynamics will be present at the next meeting to bring adapted drawings.

The board also accepted with regret the resignation of Planning Board alternate Morril Nason.
