Yesterday the Sturgis enforcement deputies seized two five gallon kegs of whiskey at the depot. The liquor was marked Charles Kimball but as “Charles” was not on hand his liquors were confiscated.
A whipping post for the District of Columbia will be established, if Congress should enact a measure which Representative Adams of Pennsylvania, has introduced. Mr. Adams talked to the President about the bill and at the conclusion of his interview quoted the President as being heartily in favor of the measure.

Twenty-four communicable disease cases were reported in the Twin Cities during the week ending Dec. 10, according to a report issued by the Maine Department of Health and Welfare.
They were: Chickenpox – Lewiston 8 and Auburn 4; hepatitis infectious – Auburn 2; measles – Lewiston 1; streptococcal nasopharyngitis – Auburn 7 and Lewiston 2.
Diseases at area communities were: Chickenpox – Litchfield 4, Hartford 1, Paris 3, Rumford 9; hepatitis infectious – Wilton 7, Augusta 1; streptococcal nasopharyngitis – Wilton 1, Chesterville 1, Litchfield 2. A case of gonorrhea was reported in Androscoggin County.

A vote by the Auburn City Council could cause the shutdown of the bus service which provides transportation for more than 50,000 people a month in the Twin Cities.
At a joint meeting of the Lewiston and Auburn councils at the Auburn City Building, the Auburn council, voting 3-1, turned down a request from the Lewiston-Auburn Transit Committee (LATC) to provide an additional $2,676 for the continued operation of Hudson Bus Lines. That amount is over and above the $30,000 Auburn had already appropriated for the service in 1980.
Saudi Arabia, in a bid for OPEC unity, raised its basic oil price Monday by a reported 7 percent, to $32 a barrel, to match the price of other members of the world oil cartel. Further price increases were possible Tuesday.
