LEWISTON – The Sun Journal announces several new hires in the newsroom.

Among them, Douglas Van Reeth as photo editor.

Van Reeth comes from the Loveland Daily Reporter-Herald in Colorado, where he has been chief photographer and picture editor since 1998. He has also worked for The Associated Press, the Anchorage Daily Times and Foster’s Daily Democrat in New Hampshire. He holds a master’s degree in communications photography from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in English from Fairfield University. His photos have been published in national and international publications, including Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, Outside, Bicycling and Powder.

Other recent hires include Rebecca Goldfine and Kerri Pepoy who will cover the Oxford Hills area of western Maine. Reporter Kelly Morgan has been reassigned to the Lewiston newsroom from the Norway bureau.

Goldfine is a Maine native who was eager to return to her home state and daily news reporting. Most recently, she worked as an intern for Conde Nast Traveler in New York City.

Goldfine, who grew up in Cape Elizabeth, earned a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in May 2005, and a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Williams College.

She has worked as a reporter for the Maine Times, the Caledonian-Record in Littleton, N.H., and the York County Coast Star in Kennebunk.

She also has worked as a tutor at the University of New England in Biddeford and Community College of Denver.

Goldfine lives in Norway.

Kerri Pepoy, a Rockaway, N.J., native, worked as a reporter for Reuters America in Pittsburgh from 1995 to 2000. She covered financial and general news in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia and landed interviews with some of the nation’s top CEOs from companies such as U.S. Steel, Mellon Bank and Harley-Davidson.

More recently, Pepoy worked as an intelligence analyst for the U.S. Department of Justice, specializing in drug trafficking and abuse. After her husband was transferred to Maine for Pepsi Bottling Group, Pepoy was hired as an intelligence analyst for the Maine Emergency Management Agency.

Pepoy earned a master’s degree in journalism from Northeastern University in Boston in 1992 after earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa., in 1989.

She lives in Poland.

Morgan is a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Mass., and has a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York.

She was a city government reporter with The Beaufort Gazette in South Carolina, reporter with The York Weekly and Foster’s Daily Democrat prior to joining the Sun Journal in 2004. She also spent some time abroad as an English teacher in Nagoya, Japan and Zagreb, Croatia. She lives in Lewiston and York.
