FARMINGTON – Victor L. Thorndike, 75, died Dec. 31 at home with his family.

Born in Camden, Nov. 13, 1930, son of Sadie Morrell and Thornton Thorndike. He was educated in Camden, Portland schools and Farmington High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950, served as senior medical specialist with the 16151 AB Squadron in Korea, receiving an honorable discharge in 1953.

He married Erma Verrill of Minot on March 17, 1956.

He was employed by U.S. Motors in Milford, Conn., for 15 years. He returned to Farmington in 1968, to run a family business, Thorndike Truck Equipment.

From 1982 to 1996 he instructed welding for Farmington Foster Applied Technology Center and continued to substitute for SAD 9 for years after. “Vic” also enjoyed working for Thorndike & Son of Avon; Complete Hydraulic in Strong and Carquest of Farmington.

He liked to hunting, fishing, camping, playing chess and watching the Red Sox.

Survivors include his wife, Erma, of almost 50 years; two daughters, Wendy Pomeroy, her husband, Joel of Wilton, Cheryl Co-Wallis of Farmington; three grandchildren, Jacklyn Pomeroy, Derek Pomeroy and Hanah Co-Wallis, who were very special to him; two brothers, Robert Thorndike of Phillips, James Thorndike of Minnesota; and five sisters, Shirley Barker of Phillips, Mary Anne Gordan of North Jay, Martha McDonald of Wilton, Christine Mitchell of Jay and Penney Morrell of Jay; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Vicki Thorndike; sister, Gladys Comstock; brother, Richard Thorndike; as well as son-in-law, Gregory Co-Wallis. Vic will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
