LISBON – Nancy Smythe Manchester, 91, of River Common Road in Sabattus and formerly of Franklin, N.H., died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 27, 2005, at the Lamp Alzheimer’s Residential Care Facility.

She was born April 18, 1914, in Franklin, N.H., a daughter of Arthur L. and Dorothy (Hancock) Smythe.

She was educated in New Hampshire schools and attended Wellesley College in Massachusetts.

She had been a resident of Maine since 1960 and was married to the late Ralph Malcolm Manchester.

Mrs. Manchester worked many years in banking and was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church. She was also a member of D.A.R., the Ladies’ Club, and the Womans’ Alliance at both her church and the hospital. In addition, she served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for many years.

Among her favorite enjoyments were gardening and reading. She also enjoyed the company of her cats and dogs.

She leaves two daughters, Kathleen Moyer and husband, John, of Peterborough, N.H., and Shirley Bornstein and husband, Robert, of Sabattus; and granddaughter, Linda S. Forman and husband, Thomas, of Boynton Beach, Fla.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Malcolm Manchester; a son, 1st Lt. John S. Manchester; and two sisters, Barbara Sheeley and Shirley Doherty.
