It was a few lovely nights for the ELHS Drama club who presented their annual musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” EL’s newer actors and actresses took over the principal roles of the show, including freshman Leah Costlow, who played the innocent, beautiful Cinderella. Of course, the show, though a “fairy tale,” was especially marked by the comedic flair of senior Mary Martin as stepsister, Joy. Completing the circle of Cinderella’s step family, Portia was played by freshman, Caroline Deblois, and Charlotte Oswald played the “evil” stepmother. A fairy tale is not a fairy tale without its prince charming, played by sophomore, Tyler Kizner who was quite new to principal role status. Junior Moriah Churchill played the role of the Fairy Godmother. Encouraging their son on his journey of love, senior Markus Schlotterbeck and sophomore Brittney Mitchell played the King and Queen. Chris Keene, a popular EL actor in humorous roles, played the Herald.

Choreography, done by Vincent Ratzavong (graduate of ‘05 from Leavitt) created the magical ballroom scene of the show. The ensemble did a fantastic job overall, despite the apparent technical difficulties with the microphones. Minor problems were overcome by the cast who delivered an enjoyable performance. It was incredible to see the balance of great talent presented by both lower and upper classmen of EL well represented. The performance’s comedic sections took over the show as a whole, but included very well-acted, mushy, scenes of the traditional Cinderella story.
