FAYETTE – Maureen Krout, 40, of Fayette, died in the comfort of her home at daybreak on Thursday, Jan. 12, surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born Nov. 25, 1965, in Brookline, Mass., a daughter of John and Grace (Comeau) Firth. She was a 1983 graduate of Mt. Blue High School and a 1987 graduate of Colby College in Waterville. She earned her master’s degree in 1990 from UNH and in 1993 graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

On July 29, 1995, she married Roy Krout in New Sharon. She had been employed at Kenneth H. Rockwood Veterinary Clinic in Farmington and at the Greyhound Placement Service in Augusta.

She was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Maine Veterinarian Association. She and her family attended the Fayette Baptist Church.

She was a devoted wife and mother whose first priority was her family. She loved being a mom, a job which came naturally to her. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, sewing and cooking. Everything she made were expressions of her love for all of her family.

She is survived by her husband, Roy, of Fayette; their son, Eli Thomas Krout, of Fayette; their daughters, Gretchen Elizabeth Krout and Liesel Louise Krout, both of Fayette; her mother and father, Grace and John Firth, of New Sharon; her brother, John “Jack” Firth, of Chesterville; her sister, Jean Marie Firth, of Augusta; paternal grandmother “Grammer,” Mary Wildes Firth, of Kennebunkport; and mother-in-law, Gertrud Krout of Pennsylvania.

She was predeceased by grandparents, Joseph and Gertrude Comeau of Dracut, Mass., and Theodore Firth of Brookline, Mass.
